Following a sell-out tour and London run, award-winning theatre company ThickSkin comes to Hull with the chilling ghost story It Walks Around The House At Night (Tuesday 6 – Thursday 8 October), haunting audiences this Autumn.

Written by Bruntwood Prize winning playwright Tim Foley (Jurassic, Soho Theatre; Electric Rosary, Royal Exchange Theatre; Driftwood, UK Tour; Doctor Who, Big Finish Productions), the production is perfectly timed for the most spine-tingling month of the year. Brimming with eerie atmosphere, jump scares and a dangerously dark sense of humour, It Walks Around The House At Night promises to leave audiences gripping the edge of their seats.

Terror is set to sweep the City of Hull as George Naylor (The Mousetrap, West End and UK Tour; Second Best, Riverside Studios; Room 13, The Barn Theatre) brings an expert blend of sheer dread and sharp comedy as Joe, a desperate out-of-work actor. During another dull shift at the bar, he mistakenly accepts a handsome, rich customer’s offer of an unusual yet generously paid gig as a ghost at an old countryside manor. Expecting a few cheap scares, Joe soon discovers something far more unsettling lurking in the grounds after dark.

Joining him is Oliver Baines (The House Party, Chichester Festival Theatre and Headlong; Frantic Assembly’s Othello, UK Tour; I Like The Way You Move, Theatre Peckham) as The Dancer, a haunting presence lingers in the shadows. As Joe’s nights on the grounds spiral out of control, It Walks Around The House At Night unfolds with unexpected twists, creeping dread and flashes of wicked humour.

Tim Foley, Writer of It Walks Around The House At Night, said:

“We’ve had an incredible reception to our production so far and I’m thrilled this ghost story will continue to horrify audiences across the UK. The question is, are you brave enough to join us?”

Directed by ThickSkin’s acclaimed Artistic Director Neil Bettles (How Not To Drown, UK Tour; Disney’s Bedknobs & Broomsticks, UK & Ireland Tour; The Unreturning; Frantic Assembly), It Walks Around The House At Night’s eerie tale is brought to life by inventive staging, immersive sound and bold visual effects. Created by Tony Award-winning sound designer Pete Malkin (Othello, National Theatre; Complicité’s The Encounter, Barbican Theatre & European Tour; Let The Right One In, Royal Exchange Theatre) and Olivier Award-winning and 2026 nominee video and lighting designer Joshua Pharo (KENREX, Southwark Playhouse, The Other Palace & Off Broadway; Wolf Witch Giant Fairy, Royal Opera House; Noughts And Crosses, Regent’s Park Theatre; Hot Wing King, National Theatre), the production captivates audiences for an all-consuming journey after dark.

ThickSkin is Wigan’s award-winning theatre company, recognised nationally for its hits Driftwood and How Not to Drown. Proudly championing exceptional talent in the Northwest, the company is known locally and internationally for its high-quality touring productions that blend new writing, movement and design to present extraordinary stories in unexpected ways.

“Entertaining and captivating, well-written, smoothly directed, and superbly acted.”
