North East based theatre company launches latest talent programme
A North East-based theatre company dedicated to making live performances more accessible to local communities has announced the return of its flagship talent development programme, with a brand-new production touring venues across the North East this spring.
Hooley Theatre has unveiled the latest edition of Haddaway & Write, a talent development programme they have built from the ground up to nurture emerging writers and champion regional voices. In partnership with Gala Durham, , the initiative supports six writers to develop original short plays from script to stage, culminating in a professionally produced touring show.
With support from Arts Council England, audiences across the region will be invited to experience six hilarious and heart-warming short plays performed back-to-back in one unforgettable evening.
Now in its third year, , the latest production showcases fresh stories inspired by life in the North East and will champion regional voices. The plays were selected through an open call-out and shaped through a tailored development process before being brought to life by professional actors and directors..
Harriet Ghost, co-founder at Hooley Theatre says, “We’re beyond excited to once again offer these opportunities to local writers, actors and directors. It’s the best part of our job, discovering the incredible talent in our region and providing a platform for the next generation to access vital artistic support, especially during such challenging times in the industry.
Our mission has always been to champion North East voices and engage communities that don’t typically access the arts. The late nights and grey hairs are all worth it when we see new audiences fall in love with theatre while helping emerging talent develop the skills they need to build lasting careers in the arts.”
The company is currently seeking North East based directors and actors to be involved in the production of the plays, with a deadline of 25th February 2026 for directors and 6th March 2026 for actors. .
