News: “The Adventures of Pinocchio” at Rosehill Theatre, Whitehaven this Christmas

Nationally renowned touring theatre company Oddsocks Productions is excited to be premiering its 2019 winter show at Rosehill Theatre, Whitehaven, this Christmas.

Oddsocks’ The Adventures of Pinocchio is the company’s new adaptation of the original novel by Carlo Collodi. The production promises to be a funny, magical adventure for adults and children alike about a wooden boy discovering what it takes to be a real human. From villains and vagabonds to fairies and giant fish, Pinocchio meets adversity and adventure with equal measure and a jolly good dose of humour.

Oddsocks Productions, who are celebrating 30 years of touring this year, last appeared at Rosehill in 2009 with their ground-breaking, hilarious take on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet which transferred to London’s West End. 

Producer Elli Mackenzie, who is delighted to have been asked, says: “As a company we have appeared at Rosehill since the mid-1990s. Memorable moments for us have been when we opened a production of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream in Damascus, Syria and Whitehaven was the next stop on the tour schedule.

“Also, bizarrely, every year a local amateur company would attend a performance, book out the front row and hold various signs up throughout the show at key moments which only the actors could see. We would struggle to keep it together on stage as it always happened at the most unexpected times.

“We feel a bit like we’re coming home, appearing at such a lovely theatre again. We have tried to arrange dates over recent years and we’ve never been able to make the schedule work, so this run up to Christmas is very welcome and our Pinocchio is set to be full of the usual Oddsocks slapstick humour, warmth, drama and memorable moments.”

The Adventures of Pinocchio will run at Rosehill from Saturday 21 to Tuesday 24 December, with 7.30pm shows on the Saturday and Monday, and 2pm matinees on the Saturday, Sunday and Christmas Eve.
