Jeremy Sassoon’s Ray Charles Experience
Jeremy is one of the UK’s most in-demand singer-pianists, renowned for his distinctive, natural, soulful voice, his jazz & blues piano style, a repertoire of stunning arrangements and a charismatic, engaging personality. His powerful tribute to the music of Ray Charles has captured the imagination of Jazz, Blues and Soul audiences alike. Since its launch, the show has gone on to headline Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, The Jazz Cafe, PizzaExpress Live Soho and Bluesfest at the O2. The show has headlined the Manchester Jazz Festival twice, the Wigan International Jazz Festival in 2018 and the Scarborough Jazz Festival in 2019. A highlight of the show was playing the main stage at the Love Supreme Festival, Europe’s biggest outdoor Jazz festival, alongside Jamie Cullum and Ms Lauryn Hill.
The late, great Ray Charles produced an immense repertoire of memorable tunes spanning several decades, and Jeremy reflects this with a set that includes compelling Ray Charles classics (Georgia on my Mind, What I’d Say, I Gotta Woman, Hallelujah I Love Her So) but also some lesser known, equally compelling musical gems (The Jealous Kind, Hardhearted Hannah, Outskirts Of Town)
The Ray Charles Project always showcases the UK’s finest jazz musicians, and the Ramsbottom performance is no exception. Jeremy is joined by Phil Johnson on drums, Huw Jacob on Bass, Billy Buckley on guitar and Steve Parry on trumpet (Corinne Bailey Rae, Martha Reeves, chief arranger for ‘The Voice’). Get ready for a spectacular show
