Bruntwood-prize winning play returns to the North of England for a strictly limited run!

A decade after its critically acclaimed premiere at the Royal Exchange in 2015, Anna Jordan’s (Succession, One Day) smash hit play, Yen, returns to the North of England from 3-20 September.

Hench is sixteen, Bobbie is thirteen. They live alone with their dog, Taliban, playing PlayStation, watching porn; surviving. Sometimes their chaotic mum, Maggie, visits; occasionally she passes out on the front lawn. But when Jenny knocks on the door, the boys discover a world far beyond what they know, a world full of love, possibility, and danger.

Winner of the 2013 Bruntwood Prize for Playwrighting and 10 years from its international sellout premiere, Jordan’s explosive look at brotherhood and the consequences of growing up alone is being remounted by award-winning director, Connor Goodwin (Toxic, Dry House) along with a creative team including leading set & costume designer, Davy String (Dear England, Hairspray).

Yen will be performed by a stellar cast headed up by soap star Vicky Binns (Coronation Street, Emmerdale) as Maggie. It also stars Adam Owers (Biedermann und die Brandstifter) as Hench, Jonny Grogan (The Head) as Bobbie, and Lucy Eve Mann (A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou) as Jennifer. Yen is produced in association with Divided Culture Co., a theatre, film, and creative education company dedicated to championing Northern talent, which Goodwin co-runs with collaborator Dan Lovatt.

Following an extensive run at the MCC Theatre in New York and five-star, sellout runs at Manchester’s Royal Exchange and at London’s The Royal Court, Yen will run at the Bolton Octagon Theatre from 3-13 September, before making its Newcastle debut at the Alphabetti Theatre from 17-20 September.
