Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas returns to Waterside this Festive Season
A heartwarming stage adaptation of the beloved book comes to Sale, Trafford from Thu 4 – Sat 27 December ‘25
Waterside is delighted to welcome back Father Christmas this December – the magical theatre adaptation of Raymond Briggs’ cherished children’s classic. Brought to life by the brilliant team at Pins and Needles Productions and co-produced with Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, this sparkling festive treat is packed with live music, puppetry, and plenty of laughs – making it the perfect Christmas outing for children and families alike.

First published in 1973 by Raymond Briggs – the legendary creator of The Snowman and The Bear –, Father Christmas remains a seasonal favourite across generations. This stage version beautifully captures the grumpy-yet-loveable character of Father Christmas as he prepares for his busiest night of the year. From feeding the reindeer to navigating snowy rooftops (with a few chimney mishaps along the way!), expect fun, mischief and magical moments – especially from his cheeky pets, Cat and Dog!

With plenty of live music, songs and playful puppetry, this critically acclaimed adaptation of Raymond Briggs’ much loved book is a delightful festive treat for children and families to enjoy.

Kate Baiden, Producer, Lyric Hammersmith Theatre says ‘The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and Pins and Needles’ are thrilled to be returning to Waterside this year with the beloved co-production of Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas. Now in its 14th year in the West End, it is wonderful to bring this magical show to Manchester for even more families to experience.’

Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas plays at Waterside Arts Thu 04 Dec – Sat 27 Dec ‘25. Tickets are available here.
