Global hip hop phenomenon Breakin’ Convention returns to Doncaster’s Cast Theatre for 2026.
The world’s ground-breaking festival of hip hop dance theatre, Breakin’ Convention, is set to take over Cast on Wednesday 03 June 2026. This high-energy international tour brings together world-class pioneers from around the globe and explosive talent from across the local region for a full-scale celebration of hip hop culture.
Curated and hosted by UK hip hop theatre legend and Breakin’ Convention Artistic Director Jonzi D, the festival transforms the entire venue. From the moment audiences arrive, the foyer will pulse with live DJs, graffiti artists, and freestyle sessions, leading into a main stage showcase of breathtaking choreography by international headliners.
The 2026 lineup features some of the most visionary names in the industry:
- TRAPLORD: The Olivier Award-winning production by Ivan Michael Blackstock. Known for his work with Beyoncé, Blackstock uses dance and spoken word to explore masculinity, mental health, and the stereotyping of Black men in a powerful journey toward self-actualisation.
- Femme Fatale: A powerhouse trio from France, Mexico, and South Korea. Based in LA, these world-renowned dancers, who have performed with Madonna and Justin Bieber, blend Popping and Robot techniques to showcase the strength and journey of the modern woman.
- ILL-Abilities: An international all-star breakdance crew of differently-abled b-boys, all of whom have overcome extraordinary challenges to become some of the best dancers in the world. They are a global movement that inspires and educates, championing that there are no limits.
True to the Breakin’ Convention spirit, the festival shines a spotlight on homegrown talent. This year’s local lineup includes high-octane performances from Street Beat Elite, Bust-A-Move Leeds, and Dancedaze UK.
Leading the charge for Doncaster is Afro Pierre, a celebrated personality in the UK street dance circuit and founder of Art Of PALM. Having previously co-hosted the festival, Pierre returns to spearhead community events, including a proposed dance exhibition at the Frenchgate Centre and a vibrant Breakin’ Convention parade through the city centre.”This year is shaping up to be the best one yet,” says Afro Pierre, as he is putting all his past experiences into creating fun, family-friendly events in the lead-up to the incredible show.
Breakin’ Convention plays at Cast, Doncaster on Wednesday 03 June 2026. Tickets are available here.
