Award-winning musical parody A Northern Tr*nny Hootenanny comes to Bury

The award winning musical parody A Northern Tr*nny Hootenanny is coming to Bury for one-night only on Saturday 30 May as part of its UK tour this Summer.

The critically-acclaimed show from Canal Street Kings founder, trans trailblazer and international cabaret renegade Hunter King – where Disney meets Dolly Parton by way of Manchester’s gay village – is hitting the road this summer after a hit Edinburgh Fringe run and premiere in Manchester last year.

Inspired by Hunter’s real-life transition and the transformative power of drag, A Northern Tr*nny Hootenanny follows the tale of a milkmaid on a mission to discover their authentic self. 

With musical parodies, dazzling vocals, “unashamedly terrible puns and a scene stealing cow” – the show promises a night of trans joy and comedy.

“So the exciting thing for me about A Northern Tr*nny Hootenanny is that I believe it’s for everybody. I wrote it as kind of a Disney-esque fairy tale for anybody who’s ever felt different, not just queer people, trans people, gay people, but anybody who just grew up feeling like an outsider for liking something conventionally against the norm or not really fitting the mold.

“It’s just been so exciting to see not only where it’s come in a couple of years, but that it’s been funded by the Arts Council, that people are really taking note, especially given everything that’s happening in society for trans people at the moment, that there really is that encouragement in the arts that we can spread trans hope and joy up and down the UK, take it to these amazing places, and engage with communities that wouldn’t necessarily have that conversation.” – Hunter King
