Theatre by the Lake Unveils a New Season of Storytelling, Celebration and Community

Theatre by the Lake (TBTL) announces its latest Summer – Winter 2025 season of captivating productions, community events and family entertainment, continuing its landmark 25th anniversary celebrations. The new programme reflects the theatre’s passion for storytelling, artistic innovation, and its ongoing commitment to the Cumbrian community.       

Headlining the season is the return of the smash-hit farce Noises Off -one of the most beloved comedies of the past 25 years. This co-production with New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich, Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch and Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, is a riotous backstage romp that promises to delight audiences once again with its impeccable timing and chaotic charm.

TBTL are also partnering with Octagon Theatre Bolton, Stephen Joseph Theatre and Hull Truck Theatre in association with Theatr Clwyd, to present another classic, Pride and Prejudice. This production with its wit, romance and social commentary will captivate a new generation of theatregoers  while enchanting fans in Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary year.

Another highlight of the season is Amelia Bullmore’s powerful and poignant play, Di and Viv and Rose. Set in a 1980s student house-share, this fresh production tells the heartfelt story of three women and the enduring power of friendship, love and memory. TBTL are excited to be co-producing once again with Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch.

The theatre also continues its tradition of exceptional family programming, with a range of shows and activities for age 0+, including a very special treat this Christmas; the World Premiere of The Wizard of Oz. Specially commissioned, this magical reinvention of the beloved story will offer new surprises and spectacular moments for audiences of all ages.

The new season further reinforces the theatre’s investment in the future of the arts. A range of masterclasses and training opportunities for young people will continue, alongside the development of an exciting new production by their young company, Company 25. The return of CumbriaFest this autumn will shine a spotlight on regional talent, providing a vital platform for local voices and stories.

There is also a wealth of visiting work celebrating the best shows touring the regional theatre scene, including Black Tie Ball, a hilarious comedy by celebrated playwright, John Godber. Acclaimed Irish folk singer Cara Dillon heads up an inspiring music programme, and the theatre continues its commitment to community engagement by hosting shows from local companies, plus the Anti Racist Cumbria Summit in October.
