SCALENO – One Body, Three Voices comes to The Studio Beyond Liverpool
A forty-one-year-old woman confronts three incompatible versions of herself: the voice the world accepts, a fierce Neapolitan alter ego, and a British artificial intelligence. One body, three languages, and a relentless struggle to remain in the present.
SCALENO is the live autopsy of a forty-one-year-old woman who cannot live in the present. She has survived everything. Living, however, is another matter.
Three voices inhabit the same body, each fighting for the right to tell her story. One is the version of herself the world accepts. One speaks Neapolitan: fierce, unforgiving and impossible to tame. The third is a British artificial intelligence: detached, clinical and relentlessly honest, delivering the truths no one wants to hear.
Moving between Italian, Neapolitan and English, SCALENO explores desire, identity, memory, shame, anger and the need to belong. At forty-one, you can survive everything and still feel out of place. Not a mother. Not a wife. Not “sorted”. She has survived the past. She is terrified of the future. The present is the only place she cannot bear to be.
SCALENO – One Body, Three Voices plays at The Studio Beyond in Liverpool 15 to 17 October. Tickets are available here.
